Background The Eagle Nebula, 7,000 light years from Earth, is a young open star cluster still surrounded by its embryonic gas cloud. Star formation may be seen at the bright tips of the dark nebula. As the dust is disassociated with the forming star, "EGGs" an acronym for "Evaporating Gaseous Globules," are left. These are embryonic stars that stop growing when the EGGs are uncovered and are separated from the pillars of source material.
