Background M15/NGC7078 is one of 150 known globular star clusters in our galaxy. This cluster is 40,000 light years from Earth and is estimated to be 12 billion years old. That is old enough to be one of the earliest star members of our galaxy.

M15's core is thought to be so dense that it's core has undergone a process of contraction called "core collapse", this could be due to the mutual gravitational interaction of it's members or a super dense object, as found in the centers of galaxies, a black hole.
