| Background |
M11 or The Wild Duck Cluster is an open cluster (galactic cluster) in Sculptor about 5,600
light years away. The stars in this cluster are bright blue, of course I am only imaging in b&w, but
their color reveal a very young age as far as astronomical objects go, about a few
million years old. Eventually all the bright stars will burn out and leave a much less
dense object with longer living, cooler burning red stars.
Open clusters are generally found in the galactic plane as opposed to globular clusters that are found
in a roughly spherical halo around the galactic center.
