IC 434/B33 - Horsehead Nebula
| Object |
IC 434/B33/NGC 2023 |
| Scale |
6.16 arc-secs/pixel |
| North angle |
-0.02° |
| Date |
12/04/00 |
| Location |
West Covina, CA |
| Equipment |
TeleVue 101, ST7E, GM8 |
| Processing |
12 x 5 Minute exposures, Gamma Stretch, stack in PS. |
| Notes |
Mostly testing mount mods, very heavily light poulted, clouds, and a first quarter moon. I would rate the
transparency at 75%. The background sky glow saturated at 1.5 minutes so I don't think longer exposures
helped the contrast. I will have to revisit this object under better conditions.

| Background |
The Horesehead nebula actually indexed as B33 in Orion is a dark nebula projecting over the
background emission nebula IC 434. The nebula in the upper right of the frame is reflection
nebula NGC 2023. If you look close, you can see a new born star at the crown of the horse's
head.
