Hartman Mask

10" LX200 - I've seen many discussions about focusing with Hartman masks and after reviewing photos and illustrations, I decided to make one out of black foam core poster board for my 10" LX200.

I used Adobe Illustrator to layout the pattern but because I can only print up to 8.5 x 14 inch paper, it had to be divided into halves that could be printed then assembled.

I used temporary spray mount adhesive to affix the pattern to the foam core then cut the patterns out with a hobby scroll saw and assembled everything with hot glue.

Additional functionality was added by allowing two of the holes to be covered providing a stop down for my scope. An additional smaller ring allows the scope to be stopped down further. I fashioned a case out of cardboard and covered it with gaffer's tape to keep the moisture out.

TeleVue 101 - The mask I made for my LX200 worked so great that I decided to make one for my TV101. I should mention that these masks only get me very close to focus. I use software to look at the brightest values and refine focus in that method.

I added little tabs to allow the the "clip-on" mask to fit over the dew shield. This foam core is very light stuff. The masks can be slipped on and off without disturbing the scope's setup. Similar techniques to the LX200 mask were used in fabrication.
