I wanted to get a case for my mount but did not want to spend big bucks.
There is a surplus store here in Pasadena, CA that has old recycled cases at a great discount,
C&H Surplus, you just have to be patient and wait for the right one. Typically they ask
$40-$50 for the medium sized but this price is negotiable. The case here was $30 negotiated
down from $50. It is a plastic fiber case with nice latches, heavy-duty handle, and a o-ring seal.
The dimensions are 18 X 14 X 9 inches. $10 in foam and an electric carving knife snuck
from the kitchen was all that was needed to fit the foam to the case and the mount to the foam.
I found from cutting my eyepiece case foam, that if you cut all the way through then cut a piece
from the remnant, the depths of the pieces can be easily set. Much easier technique than
trying to cut the piece to depth in place. I was afraid of out gassing from any adhesive for
my eyepieces so I did not use any, but on the mount I found that additional strength can be added
to the foam insert by gluing the depth pieces in. Especially when such a large piece is removed as
in this case. From the remnant of cutting the mount figure out, I cut a one inch piece to glue
into the bottom. Works great and the entire case only ran me $40.
